Fast forward: making music in Cuba

I arrived in Havana on January 14, 2017.  It was my fourth time visiting the country.

While this trip was much like the previous ones (that is, filled morning to morning with music, meetings, more music, more meetings, along with a little food in between and a little rum after) there was a unique magic to this particular trip, this particular combination of people, this particular combination of scores.

As CEO of PARMA Recordings it is my job to produce music.  Our company works regularly in venues throughout the U.S. and Europe and beyond, and much of our collective time as a company has been spent in the studio.  It’s a comforting place.

Yet comfort is not in great abundance in Cuba.  Anyone who has been there knows it defies easy description, an illogical place, a place not yet in sync with time, a place which appears to be on the edge of evolution instead of revolution.
