Duo Dramatique celebrates big D (not Dallas)

Alliteration is in full force for the dynamic Duo Dramatique, formerly known as the Dancewicz-Doucet Duo, and fittingly so, as it consists of violinist Dominika Dancewicz and pianist Donald Doucet. The letter D is inherently central to their identity, as individuals and a duet, and now it has become the inspiration for one of their most recent commissions, a four-movement work tonally centered on none other than the pitch of D.
On Sunday, the duo will debut Karl Blench’s “Sonata in D” alongside new works by four other Houston-based composers — Philip Miller, Richard Lavenda, Arthur Gottschalk and Erberk Eryılmaz — in “Houston Treasures: Five Premieres.” The free concert will take place in Duncan Recital Hall at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where each of the men has been or is currently involved, albeit in different capacities.
